Let’s be real. Studying abroad is not just about studying, it’s about living your best life in a brand new city. And Sydney got it all. Beaches, brunch, wildlife that could fight you, and sunsets that will make you emotional for no reason. So whether you’re a planner or a "go with the flow, but like with an itinerary" type, here’s your must-do list for a semester in Sydney.

1. Do the Bondi to Coogee Coastal Walk

It’s 6km of pure ocean magic. Think dramatic cliffs, crystal water, and shirtless surfers jogging past you. Start at Bondi, end at Coogee, and take 237 photos along the way. You will stop for a smoothie at one of the beach kiosks on the way. You will not regret it.

2. Swim at Bondi Icebergs

It’s that saltwater pool overlooking the ocean. It’s also $9 entry, freezing year-round, and slightly overrated, but you still need to go. Bring a towel and your most aesthetic swimsuit. And definitely try out the Bronte and Coogee beach pools too.

3. Ride the ferry to Manly

For the price of your public transportation fare, you get a full sightseeing tour of the Sydney Harbour. End up at a chill beach town with cute shops and even better gelato.

4. Get drinks at Opera Bar during golden hour

Enjoy a cocktail under the Sydney Opera House, with the Harbour Bridge glowing behind you. You'll also get the best pictures and then take in the most beautiful sunset.

5. Scream at a footy game even if you don’t know the rules

Rugby, AFL, cricket. Pick your chaos. You don't have to understand anything, but the energy is unreal. Just cheer when everyone else does and eat a meat pie at halftime. Instant Aussie status.

6. Go full tourist and climb the Sydney Harbour Bridge (or don’t)

It’s expensive, but also iconic. If you’ve got the cash, go for the climb and take in the amazing views. If not, just walk across the bridge for free and call it "budget-core."

7. Day trip to the Blue Mountains (bring snacks and a puffer)

You’ll see the Three Sisters, ride a cable car, maybe even hike. Or just take a thousand pics of the fog and feel spiritual. Either way, it’s worth the train ride.

8. Picnic in the Royal Botanic Garden with insane views

Pick up your favorite meal or even a classic Woolies meal deal (sandwich, chips, drink for under $10, you're welcome) and head to the garden overlooking the water. Bonus points if you spot an ibis doing something weird.

9. Explore markets like a local, shop like a tourist

Check out Glebe, Paddington, or The Rocks Markets. You'll leave with something you absolutely did not need but will cherish forever (probably a $30 ring or a linen tote that says “Bondi Babe”).

10. Try surfing

Whether it’s a group lesson at Bondi or a solo disaster in Maroubra, give it a go. You’ll drink more seawater than expected, but you’ll also get the most Aussie story to tell.

11. Experience Sydney nightlife

Go out in Newtown if you're feeling alternative, Darlinghurst if you're dressing up, or CBD to enjoy the city. Pro tip: always eat before you go, nothing good happens on an empty stomach at 2am.

12. Catch a rooftop sunset

Find a rooftop — any rooftop — and watch the sun melt behind the skyline. You’ll suddenly feel nostalgic for a moment you’re still in. That’s how you know you’re doing this right.

Final Tip

Don’t stress about checking everything off. Some of the best moments will be unplanned, a beach day that turns into a deep convo, a solo coffee that becomes your routine, or a wrong bus that leads to your new favorite spot.
